About Katie Wherley

Katie began her riding career at the age of seven, while attending summer camp at Butler School. She then joined Seneca Valley Pony Club, from which she graduated with an 'A' rating at age 19. While in Pony Club, she participated in Nationals three times with the Capital Region - once as a member of the Dressage Team and twice as a member of Combined Training Team - both times achieving the top individual score for her team.

Katie began competing in USEA (then the USCTA) Recognized Horse Trials at the age of 12. She quickly progressed to the Preliminary level by age 14 and Intermediate by age 20. She completed her first International competition at the Kentucky Horse Park CCI* in 1998. Katie's first two upper level mounts, Digger and A Normal Fling, are now enjoying their retirement at the farm while Katie brings up the next string of stars.

Katie's strong work ethic and dedication to her horses is the driving force behind Rock Solid Training. Even when she went to college, Katie took along two horses - one to train as a hunter/jumper and the other as her primary event horse. Yet, she still managed to graduate magna cum laude in three years with a BS in Sports Medicine and ACE certification as a personal trainer from Elon University. She feels that, while she is not currently working in her degree field, her coursework in anatomy and physiology has enabled her to better understand her horses and their training needs.
